Clean technology solutions
Technologies to help electrify your home.
Electrifying your home means switching from fossil fuel-powered technologies to using electricity to heat and cool your home and power your appliances. In addition to being better for the environment, it can also help you manage your energy costs, make your home safer and improve your comfort.
Did you know? In Ontario, approximately 84% of electricity is generated by zero-emissions sources, such as hydro, wind and nuclear power.
Electrifying your home doesn’t have to happen all at once. Instead, switch to electric when your fossil fuel-powered technologies reach end of life.
The following are examples of clean technology solutions in practice:
- Heat and cool your home with an electric heat pump. Switching from a natural gas system to an electric heat pump can help you save on heating, cooling and operating costs, and is a safer option that can help improve air quality and your comfort. Find out how much you could save with our Heat Pump Calculator Tool.
- Switch to a heat pump water heater. A heat pump water heater can be much more energy efficient than a gas water heater.
- Buy an electric vehicle. They’re better for the environment than gas-fuelled vehicles and far less expensive to power.
- Replace your fossil fuel-powered appliances, such as your stove and lawn equipment, with energy-efficient electric models. You may even qualify for grants, loans and/or rebates towards these types of upgrades.
- Improve the energy efficiency of your home. There are many ways to make your home more energy efficient, such as switching to LED lighting, sealing drafts, upgrading insulation, and managing your heating and cooling systems with the use of a smart thermostat. Visit our Offers and Rebates web page to discover incentive programs that support energy efficiency upgrades for your home.
- Adopt renewable energy solutions, such as powering your home with solar panels and installing a battery energy storage system to help manage your renewable energy generation.
