Outage notifications contest

Official contest rules.

No purchase necessary. Contest begins on February 2, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (“EST”) and ends on March 2, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. EST. There are a total of five (5) prizes available to be won as follows: A Canadian Tire gift card valued at two hundred dollars (CAD $200.00) each. Skill-testing question required. How to enter: Enrol in outage notifications by logging into your self-serve portal (account required) and registering for outage notifications for SMS (text messages) and/or email.

The Contest is open to legal residents of the city of Toronto in the province of Ontario who are current residential customers of Toronto Hydro with an account in good standing, and who are eighteen (18) years of age or older at time of entry, with the exception of employees of Toronto Hydro, its parent, related and affiliated companies, subsidiaries, departments or agencies, franchisees, suppliers, advertising and promotional agencies, contest administrators, and any other parties engaged in the development, production or distribution of Contest materials, and those living in the same household. There is a limit of one entry per person. Odds of winning depends on number of eligible entries received. Full rules and entry details are as follows.

1. Sponsor

The Outage Notifications Contest (the “Contest”) is sponsored by Toronto Hydro-Electric System Limited, 14 Carlton Street, Toronto, Ontario M5B 1K5 (“Sponsor” or “Toronto Hydro”).

2. Eligibility

The Contest is open to legal residents of the city of Toronto in the province of Ontario who are current residential customers of Toronto Hydro with an account in good standing, and who are eighteen (18) years of age or older at time of entry, with the exception of employees of Toronto Hydro, its parent, related and affiliated companies, subsidiaries, departments or agencies, franchisees, suppliers, advertising and promotional agencies, contest administrators, and any other parties engaged in the development, production or distribution of Contest materials, and those living in the same household. By participating in this Contest, entrants acknowledge compliance with, and agree to be bound by, these Contest Rules. Entrants who do not comply with any of the Contest Rules are subject to disqualification by the Sponsor, in Sponsor’s sole discretion, at any time.

3. Contest date and times

The Contest begins on February 2, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. EST and ends on March 2, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. EST (the “Contest Period”) after which time the Contest will be closed and no further entries will be accepted.

4. How to enter

  1. No purchase necessary.
  2. To participate in this Contest, entrants must log in to their Toronto Hydro self-serve portal account (torontohydro.com/login) and successfully register for outage notifications for SMS (text messages), email or both. Entrants who do not have an existing self-serve portal account must first sign up at torontohydro.com/registration before they can enrol in outage notifications. Once the entrant has successfully registered for outage notifications, they will be automatically entered into the Contest. Each entry must contain the entrant's name, address, telephone number with area code and 10-digit Toronto Hydro residential customer account number. Toronto Hydro will not accept entries by fax, courier, email, personal delivery or by any method other than as noted above. Limit one (1) entry per person.
  3. A copy of the Official Contest Rules for this contest will be posted and remain available throughout the Contest Period. By entering this Contest, entrants acknowledge they have read, understood, and agree to comply with these Official Contest Rules. Toronto Hydro reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any entrant they find to be tampering with the entry process or with the operation of this Contest or to be acting in violation of the Official Contest Rules. Toronto Hydro reserves the rights, in its sole discretion, to amend, cancel, terminate, or suspend this Contest, in whole or in part, without prior notice.
  4. All entries become the property of Toronto Hydro and none will be returned. All entries are subject to verification and will be declared invalid if they are late, lost, illegible, incomplete, forged, falsified, altered, or tampered with in any way. Toronto Hydro is not responsible for contacting entrants who provide unclear or incomplete information and assumes no responsibility for entries that are delayed or misdirected during the Contest Period, including any failure to receive an entry as a result of technical problems.
  5. Any attempt to deliberately damage any website or to undermine the legitimate operation of this Contest is a violation of law, and should such an attempt be made, Toronto Hydro reserves the right to exclude such person from the Contest and to seek remedies and damages to the fullest extent permitted by law.

5. Prizes

The following prizes will be awarded in this Contest:

Five (5) Canadian Tire gift cards valued at $200 CAD each (the “Prize”). The Prize can be used at any Canadian Tire retail location in Canada or online at canadiantire.ca. There is no expiry date, and each Prize is subject to Canadian Tire’s standard Terms and Conditions.

6. Prize limits and exclusions

Enrolling and un-enrolling in outage notifications will not result in any additional chances to win. The Prize is not to be combined with any other offer. The Prize cannot be refunded. Ceasing to be a Toronto Hydro residential account holder or un-enrolling in the outage notifications will result in disqualification by the Sponsor, in Sponsor’s sole discretion.

7. Winner selection

THE CONTEST BEGINS 9:00 A.M. (EST) ON FEBRUARY 2, 2026 AND ALL ENTRIES MUST BE RECEIVED BY MARCH 2, 2026 at 11:59 P.M. (EST). The potential winner will be selected within seven (7) business days following the Contest Period from the total entry pool from the Contest at the offices of Toronto Hydro, 14 Carlton Street, Toronto, Ontario, Canada M5B 1K5. Winners will be selected randomly by the Toronto Hydro Media and Public Relations team at Toronto Hydro's Head Office under the supervision of Diana Stephenson, Executive Vice-President and Chief Customer Officer. Odds of winning the Prize depend on the number of eligible entries received by the end of the Contest Period and meeting the Contest criteria. The eligible entrant(s) randomly selected will be notified via telephone or email on or before March 16, 2026. Selected entrants must respond to Toronto Hydro via email to digital@torontohydro.com within 96 hours of such notification or they will forfeit the Prize. Toronto Hydro may then select a new name from the remaining eligible entrants. This selection process will continue until an eligible entry is selected and a winner is declared. ADDITIONAL RESTRICTIONS MAY APPLY. NO SUBSTITUTIONS.

In order to be declared an official winner, the selected entrant must meet all of the following requirements.

  1. Respond to the notice that they have been selected as a potential winner within 96 hours of the notice.
  2. Correctly answer, without assistance of any kind, the Sponsor’s time-limited, mathematical skill-testing question. Without limiting the generality of the forgoing, the Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion, to administer an alternate test of skill as it deems appropriate based on the circumstances and/or to comply with applicable law.
  3. Provide satisfactory identification and proof of eligibility.
  4. Sign and return (via email or mail) to Toronto Hydro, within three (3) business days of receipt thereof, a Warranty and Release Form (“Warranty and Release”) confirming entrant's eligibility and compliance with the Official Contest Rules, acceptance of the Prize as awarded, and releasing Toronto Hydro, the supplier of the Prizes and their respective advertising and promotional agencies and their affiliates, and employees, directors, officers, agents and representatives, successors and assigns of each, respectively (collectively, the "Releasees") from all liability for damages s/he may incur as a result of participating in this Contest and accepting the Prize.

Failure to comply with these Official Contest Rules will cause the Prize to be forfeited, in which case, the Prize will be re-awarded at Sponsor’s discretion.

All decisions of the Sponsor’s Media and Public Relations team, including the validation of entries and the evaluation of the entrant's answer to the skill-testing question, will be final and binding on the entrant, without right of appeal.

Within three (3) business days of receipt of the completed Warranty and Release, Toronto Hydro will notify the winner on how the Prize will be delivered.

8. Release

By entering this Contest, each entrant acknowledges and agrees that the Releasees accept no responsibility for any loss, damages or claims arising from, or caused by, the Contest or the Prize awarded, and releases the Releasees in respect thereof.

By entering this Contest, each entrant further acknowledges and agrees that as a condition of winning, Toronto Hydro and its affiliates have the right to use and publicize the winners’ names, which may include publicizing the winners’ names on Toronto Hydro’s X (formerly known as Twitter), Instagram, Facebook and/or TikTok social media channels, and fact that s/he has won a specific Prize for publicity purposes, without remuneration or liability, except where prohibited by law, and agrees to sign a Warranty and Release acknowledging such rights.

By entering this Contest, each entrant further acknowledges and agrees that as a condition of entering that all entries and submissions become the sole property of Toronto Hydro and its affiliates and Toronto Hydro has the right to use as desired without remuneration or liability.

9. Governing laws

This Contest is subject to all applicable laws in the province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein.

10. Winner list

Following the Contest Period, the name of the winner may be posted on Toronto Hydro’s website and social media channels, including X (formerly known as Twitter), Instagram, Facebook and TikTok.

11. Personal information

The personal information gathered about entrants for this Contest will be used only for the administration of this Contest and will not be used or disclosed for any other purpose except as permitted or required by law. You may view and read Toronto Hydro's Privacy Policy at torontohydro.com/privacypolicy. Any other consent that the entrant has given to the Sponsor to receive commercial electronic messages which are currently in effect, and unrelated to this Contest, shall not be affected by the request for consent made pursuant to this Contest.

12. License and intellectual property

All intellectual property, including but not limited to trademarks, logos, designs, promotional materials, web pages, source codes, images, drawings, illustrations, slogans and representations are owned by the Sponsor. All rights reserved. Unauthorized copying or use of any of the Sponsor’s intellectual property without the express written consent of the Sponsor is strictly prohibited. Third-party brands or trademarks mentioned as prizes, including Canadian Tire, remain the property of their respective owners and are used for descriptive purposes only. Mention of these brands does not imply sponsorship or endorsement.

13. Sponsor

Toronto Hydro-Electric System Limited, 14 Carlton Street, Toronto, Ontario, M5B 1K5. Toronto Hydro-Electric System Limited is the regulated distributor of electricity in the City of Toronto.

Toronto Hydro reserves the right to withdraw, amend, or suspend this Contest (or to amend these Rules) in any way, in the event of an error, technical problem, computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failure or any other cause beyond the reasonable control of Toronto Hydro that interferes with the proper conduct of this Contest as contemplated by these Rules. Any attempt to deliberately damage any website or to undermine the legitimate operation of this Contest in any way (as determined by Toronto Hydro in its sole and absolute discretion) is a violation of criminal and civil laws and should such an attempt be made, Toronto Hydro reserves the right to seek remedies and damages to the fullest extent permitted by law.

Toronto Hydro reserves the right to cancel, amend or suspend this Contest, or to amend these Rules, in any way without prior notice or obligation, in the event of any accident, printing, administrative, or other error of any kind, or for any other reason whatsoever. Without limiting the generality of the forgoing, Toronto Hydro reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion, to administer an alternate test of skill as it deems appropriate based on the circumstances and/or to comply with applicable law.

Toronto Hydro reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion, and without prior notice, to adjust any of the dates and/or timeframes stipulated in these Rules, to the extent necessary, for purposes of verifying compliance by any entrant, or as a result of any technical or other problems, or in light of any other circumstances which, in the opinion of Toronto Hydro, in its sole and absolute discretion, affect the proper administration of the Contest as contemplated in these Rules, or for any other reason. In the event of any discrepancy or inconsistency between the terms and conditions of these Rules and disclosures or other statements contained in any Contest-related materials, including, but not limited to: television, print or online advertising; the terms and conditions of these Rules shall prevail, govern and control to the fullest extent permitted by law.
