For many people, the CN Tower is more than a landmark.
It's part of Toronto's identity.
Whether it's lighting up the skyline, welcoming visitors from around the world or serving as the backdrop to unforgettable moments, the CN Tower has become woven into the city's identity.
While most people experience the tower from the observation deck, the restaurant or the ground below, there's a dedicated network of infrastructure helping power those experiences every day.
At Toronto Hydro, we're proud to play a role in supporting one of the city's most recognized destinations.
Powering a landmark unlike any other

Supporting the CN Tower requires a unique electrical system designed specifically for the demands of an ultra-tall structure.
Electricity travels more than 1,300 feet through the tower using specialized infrastructure built to support reliable service every day. The system includes custom-designed equipment and backup capabilities that help ensure operations can continue even when maintenance is required.
Even installing some of the equipment required creative thinking. Due to access and elevator weight restrictions within the tower, transformers had to be transported in sections and assembled on-site.
These unique considerations reflect the careful planning and expertise required to support a structure unlike any other in Toronto.
Reliable electricity doesn't happen by accident. Supporting a landmark like the CN Tower takes more than infrastructure. It takes skilled people, strong partnerships and a commitment to reliability.
Behind every connection is a team of skilled employees working to maintain critical infrastructure safely and efficiently. For the CN Tower, this includes the Certified Power Cable Persons crew who support the electrical systems serving the landmark, as well as our Key Accounts team to help meet their unique operational needs.
Together, these teams help ensure the tower can continue welcoming visitors, hosting events and serving as a destination for people from around the world.
Proud to power Toronto
The CN Tower is one of many iconic landmarks that help make Toronto such a vibrant city.
From homes and businesses to hospitals, transit systems and major attractions, reliable electricity powers the moments, experiences and services people depend on every day.
We're proud to support the CN Tower and the experiences it creates for millions of residents and visitors each year.
Because when Toronto shines, we're proud to help power it.
