Toronto Hydro releases 2016 Corporate Responsibility Report: Bringing Energy to Life

Report follows Global Reporting Initiative's G4 Guidelines

TORONTO, Feb. 5, 2018 /CNW/ - Toronto Hydro's latest Corporate Responsibility report, Bringing Energy to Life, has now been released. This is the eighth report to be produced, highlighting environmental, social and economic initiatives and accomplishments at Toronto Hydro.

This is our second report to be produced in accordance with Global Reporting Initiative's (GRI) G4 sustainability reporting guidelines. Five years ago, Toronto Hydro was certified as meeting the requirements of ISO 14001:2004 (upgraded to ISO 14001:2015 in 2017) and OHSAS 18001:2007, which are internationally-recognized standards for environmental and safety management systems. We have also been recognized as a Sustainable Electricity Company™ by the Canadian Electricity Association since 2014.

ACHIEVEMENTS FROM THE REPORT:

  • We had a 52% decrease in greenhouse gas emissions since 2014
  • We achieved five million hours without a lost-time injury between December 2014 and June 2016
  • We received two awards from the Electrical Safety Authority, one in 2015 for Consumer and Home Safety and one in 2016 for Powerline Safety
  • We successfully completed third-party public safety audits with zero findings for the fourth year in a row
  • We participated in innovative energy storage projects aimed at reducing peak demand, including community energy storage, underwater energy storage and pole-mounted energy storage
