Frequently asked questions for third parties

Learn more about third-party access to electricity usage data.

You may have received an invitation from a Toronto Hydro customer to access their electricity usage data. If you have questions about the invitation — or you’re a new user completing registration — we’re here to help. On this page, you’ll find answers to commonly asked questions, organized by category.

Note: Third-party invitations and account access are new features available to our commercial interval metering, residential net metering and small commercial customers.

Third-party invitations

The email address used to send the invitation was provided by the Toronto Hydro customer who invited you. The email can’t be changed once the invitation has been sent. If it’s incorrect or you want to use a different email address, the customer will need to send a new invitation to your preferred email address.

You can decline the invitation and ask the customer to resend it to the email address you prefer.

Do not accept the invitation. Instead, contact the inviter and confirm they want you to only have third-party account access. If so, they must contact us to remove your current account holder status before sending a new invitation.

The customer who invited you will have to send you a new invitation. Invitations expire seven days after they are sent.

If you already have a Toronto Hydro online account

If the email address that received the invitation is already linked to a Toronto Hydro online account:

  1. You’ll be taken to the login page.
  2. Log in using the same email address and your password.
  3. You'll be taken to the invitation page where you can accept or decline the invite.

If you accept, you'll have third-party access to the account(s) you’ve been invited to join.

If you don’t have an online account

If the email address that received the invitation isn’t linked to a Toronto Hydro online account:

  1. You'll be taken to the invitation page where you can accept or decline the invite.
  2. If you accept, you’ll be taken to our third-party registration page.

After completing registration, you’ll have third-party access to the account(s) you’ve been invited to join.

The customer who invited you will receive an email notification letting them know you’ve declined.

The customer who invited you will have to send you a new invitation.

After logging into our self‑serve portal, the account(s) you have access to will appear in the top‑right corner, showing the account number and service address.

If you have access to multiple accounts, there will be an account selector in the top‑right corner. Use the dropdown menu to switch between accounts.

Third-party access

Third-party account access allows you to view electricity data for the account(s) you've been invited to access.

To switch between accounts, use the account selector in the top-right corner of the self-serve portal.

Note: If you manage multiple customer accounts and received invitations to different email addresses, you must log in separately with each email address for access. These accounts cannot be viewed together in a single profile.

If you’re already a primary or secondary account holder, accepting a third-party invitation doesn’t change your existing access. You’ll keep your account holder status and continue to see full account details, including billing information, notification preferences and electricity usage.

In the portal, your status will still appear as primary or secondary on the Accounts page.

If this isn’t what you expected, check with the person who invited you to confirm the level of access they intended to give you.

Online profile and account management

Yes, you can have multiple accounts linked to your online profile.

You can manage usage data for multiple customers from a single online profile, but each customer must send an invitation to the same email address associated with your online account.

Yes, you can still access any other account for which you’ve been given access.

Note: For the account you were removed from, you’ll no longer be able to access data or view reports.

Yes, you can update your email address from the My Profile page in our self-serve portal. The customer who invited you will see the updated email address associated with your third-party access.

There are three types of account holder status that can appear on your account(s):

  • Primary: The person or company legally and financially responsible for the account
  • Secondary: Someone granted full account access by the primary account holder
  • Third-party user: An external contact invited to access electricity usage data

Both primary and secondary account holders can send invitations for third-party access and remove third-party access online.

If you’re a primary or secondary account holder, you’ll be able to log in to or register for our self-serve portal. Once you log in, you can also visit the Accounts page to check account holder status for each account.

If you need further assistance checking your account holder status, please contact us.
