Lighting up the holiday season with LEDs

TORONTO, Nov. 25, 2016 /CNW/ - This year's Cavalcade of Lights, presented by Great Gulf and produced by the City of Toronto will be a little extra special, thanks to the addition of new LED lights from Toronto Hydro. The event takes place tomorrow, Saturday, November 26 at 7 p.m. from Nathan Philips Square (100 Queen Street West).

As the electricity company for the city, we're not only powering the lights, we're also making sure they're energy efficient.

This multi-year partnership has enabled the city to cover all of Nathan Philips Square and the Christmas tree with more than 525,000 energy-efficient lights powered by Toronto Hydro. New this year will be the addition of more than 1,700 feet of LED lights lining the arches above the Nathan Phillips Square ice rink and the elevated walkways surrounding the square.

The new LED lights come in the form of icicle string lights that will help transform the square into a festive area for everyone to enjoy. The lights will be officially lit as part of the ceremony and will remain in place until the middle of January.
