What You Should Know
You should know that, under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (section 228), it is the owner's responsibility to have all underground services marked for the safety of contracted service workers prior to having any excavation work done on private property.
Contact Toronto Hydro if you:
- Have tree branches or shrubs growing on or around our equipment
Are planning to remove or prune a tree – call us first! Our trained arborists will attempt to directionally prune trees (train them to grow away from power lines) or provide you with guidance on choosing an arborist. (Contact LEAF if you are planning to plant a tree.)
Severe weather and tree limbs can damage Toronto Hydro equipment. Always be cautious around equipment, especially if it's damaged. Stay clear of downed power lines - they could be energized. Keep a distance of at least six metres or 20 feet away. Call Toronto Hydro at 416-542-8000 or 911 to report a downed wire or damaged equipment.
