Entry and Eligibility
This contest runs from 9:00 AM (EST) on January 15, 2018 through to 11:59 PM (EST) on February 25, 2018 (“Contest Period”). You will be entered automatically into the “Toronto Hydro Safety Essentials Quiz Contest” (the “Contest”) if you complete the brief quiz via Toronto Hydro‑Electric System Limited's (“Toronto Hydro”) website at torontohydro.com/safety and provide your contact details during the Contest Period (the “Contest Entry”).
This Contest is only open to individuals who are 18 years of age or older, primarily residing in the City of Toronto, excluding the employees, directors, and officers of Toronto Hydro or any of its affiliates, advertising, and promotional agencies, and agents and representatives and the immediate family members of such employees, directors, and officers, their legal or common‑law spouse and/or any persons living in the same household. There is a limit of one (1) Contest Entry per person. No purchase necessary.
A copy of the Official Contest Rules (the “Rules”) for this contest will be posted at torontohydro.com/safety throughout the Contest Period. By entering this Contest, entrants acknowledge they have read, understood, and agree to comply with these Rules. Toronto Hydro reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any entrant they find to be tampering with the entry process or with the operation of this Contest or to be acting in violation of the Rules. Toronto Hydro reserves the rights, in its sole discretion, to amend, cancel, terminate, or suspend this Contest, in whole or in part, without prior notice.
Any attempt to deliberately damage any website or to undermine the legitimate operation of this Contest is a violation of law, and should such an attempt be made, Toronto Hydro reserves the right to exclude such person from the Contest and to seek remedies and damages to the fullest extent permitted by law.
The following prizes will be awarded in this Contest:
Five (5) electronic gift cards valued at $100.00 (CAD) each (each, a “Prize”). Prizes to be awarded to five (5) individual winners. The individual winner may select one of the following participating vendors from which to redeem the Prize: Tim Hortons, Starbucks, Hudson's Bay, Home Hardware. Best Buy, Kobo, Sephora, Roots, and Amazon. The Sponsor reserves the right to modify this list of participating vendors at any time. The Prize must be accepted as awarded. No cash substitutions. No individual winner may win more than one (1) Prize.
The Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion, to substitute the Prize or a component thereof with a prize of equal or greater value, including, without limitation, but at Sponsor's sole and absolute discretion, a cash award. Prize will only be awarded to the person who is verified as the quiz respondent.
THE CONTEST BEGINS 9:00 AM (EST) ON January 15, 2018 AND ALL ENTRIES MUST BE RECEIVED BY February 25, 2018 at 11:59 PM (EST). The potential winners will be selected within seven (7) business days following the Contest Period from the total Contest Entry pool at the offices of Toronto Hydro, 14 Carlton Street, Toronto, Ontario, Canada M5B 1K5. Winners will be selected randomly by the Toronto Hydro Marketing Team at Toronto Hydro's head office under the supervision of Brian Buchan, Director, Media, Communications and Municipal Stakeholder Relations. Odds of winning a Prize depend on the number of eligible entries received by the end of the Contest Period and meeting the Contest criteria. The eligible entrant randomly selected will be notified via e‑mail on or before March 5, 2018. Selected entrant must respond to Toronto Hydro via e‑mail to email@example.com within 96 hours of such notification or they will forfeit the Prize. Toronto Hydro may then select a new name from the remaining eligible entrants. This selection process will continue until an eligible Contest Entry is selected and a winner is declared. ADDITIONAL RESTRICTIONS MAY APPLY. NO SUBSTITUTIONS.
In order to be declared an official winner, the selected entrant must:
1. Respond to the notice that they have been selected as a potential winner within 96 hours of the notice;
2. Correctly answer, unaided, a time‑limited, mathematical skill‑testing question by email to a representative of Toronto Hydro'&s Marketing department;
3. Provide satisfactory identification and proof of eligibility; and
4. Sign and return (via e‑mail or mail) to Toronto Hydro, within three (3) days of receipt thereof, an agreement and release form confirming entrant's eligibility and compliance with the Rules, acceptance of the Prize as awarded, and releasing Toronto Hydro, the supplier of the Prizes and their respective advertising and promotional agencies and their affiliates, and employees, directors, officers, agents and representatives, successors and assigns of each, respectively (collectively, the “Releasees”) from all liability for damages s/he may incur as a result of participating in this Contest and accepting the Prize.
Failure to comply with these Rules will cause the Prize to be forfeited, in which case, the Prize will be re‑awarded at Toronto Hydro's discretion.
All decisions of the Toronto Hydro Marketing Team, including the validation of entries and the evaluation of the entrant's answer to the skill testing question, will be final and binding on the entrant, without right of appeal.
Within three (3) business days of receipt of the completed agreement and release form, Toronto Hydro will notify the winner on how to take possession of their Prize.
By entering this Contest, each entrant acknowledges and agrees that the Releasees accept no responsibility for any loss, damages or claims arising from, or caused by, the Contest or the Prize awarded, and releases the Releasees in respect thereof.
By entering this Contest, each entrant further acknowledges and agrees that as a condition of winning, Toronto Hydro and its affiliates have the right to use and publicize the winners' names, which may include publicizing the winners' names on Toronto Hydroâ€™s Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram pages, and fact that he/she has won a specific prize for publicity purposes, without remuneration or liability, except where prohibited by law, and agrees to sign a release acknowledging such rights.
By entering this Contest, each entrant further acknowledges and agrees that as a condition of entering that all entries and submissions become the sole property of Toronto Hydro and its affiliates and Toronto Hydro has the right to use as desired without remuneration or liability.
This promotion is subject to all applicable laws in the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein.
Following the Contest Period, the name of the winner may be posted on Toronto Hydro's website, Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram pages.
Toronto Hydro‑Electric System Limited, 14 Carlton Street, Toronto, Ontario, Canada M5B 1K5. Toronto Hydro‑Electric System Limited is the regulated distributor of electricity in the City of Toronto.
Toronto Hydro reserves the right, to withdraw, amend, or suspend this Contest (or to amend these Rules) in any way, in the event of an error, technical problem, computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failure, or any other cause beyond the reasonable control of Toronto Hydro that interferes with the proper conduct of this Contest as contemplated by these Rules. Any attempt to deliberately damage any website or to undermine the legitimate operation of this Contest in any way (as determined by Toronto Hydro in its sole and absolute discretion) is a violation of criminal and civil laws and should such an attempt be made, Toronto Hydro reserves the right to seek remedies and damages to the fullest extent permitted by law.
Toronto Hydro reserves the right to cancel, amend or suspend this Contest, or to amend these Rules, in any way without prior notice or obligation, in the event of any accident, printing, administrative, or other error of any kind, or for any other reason whatsoever. Without limiting the generality of the forgoing, Toronto Hydro reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion, to administer an alternate test of skill as it deems appropriate based on the circumstances and/or to comply with applicable law.
Toronto Hydro reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion, and without prior notice, to adjust any of the dates and/or timeframes stipulated in these Rules, to the extent necessary, for purposes of verifying compliance by any entrant, or as a result of any technical or other problems, or in light of any other circumstances which, in the opinion of Toronto Hydro, in its sole and absolute discretion, affect the proper administration of the Contest as contemplated in these Rules, or for any other reason. In the event of any discrepancy or inconsistency between the terms and conditions of these Rules and disclosures or other statements contained in any Contest‑related materials, including, but not limited to: television, print or online advertising; the terms and conditions of these Rules shall prevail, govern and control to the fullest extent permitted by law.
