With approximately 1,200 of Ontario’s dairy farmers counting on them to turn milk into a variety of dairy products,
Gay Lea Foods Co-operative puts
a priority on keeping production lines running.
So when it came to improving energy efficiency, maintaining production integrity was of vital importance. Through the assistance of suppliers and Toronto Hydro, equipment and lighting retrofits at Gay Lea’s Toronto area plants prove that implementing energy efficiencies doesn’t have to impact production.
The new improvements resulted in approximately $53,000 in annual electricity savings!

BIC Inc.
 

 


 

 
 

Following the same philosophy BIC Inc. uses in manufacturing simple and functional products, the company put ‘Pen to Paper’ to Save Money and Electricity by reducing its electricity use at its Toronto facilities. Working with Toronto Hydro, BIC Inc. completed lighting upgrades and a redesign of its warehouse and head office. In addition, an old rooftop AC unit was replaced with a more efficient model. To date, BIC Inc. has managed to save approximately 69 KW – which is the equivalent of removing approximately 31 homes from the electricity grid for one year. Congratulations to BIC Inc. for achieving excellence in conservation.

lil' bean n' green cafe n' play

 

 

 


Green at heart and loyal to their cause, the owners of lil' bean n’ green cafe n' play took advantage of conservation. At no cost to them, they completed a lighting retrofit at their vibrant cafe. lil' bean n’ green cafe n' play is expected to save almost $350 per year in electricity costs, which is equivalent to removing approximately 524 kilograms per year of harmful greenhouse gas emissions from the atmosphere. Congrats to lil' bean n’ green cafe n' play!

 7 Numbers

Six days a week, 'Mama Rosa' and her family at 7 Numbers restaurant cook up a storm at their two locations.  They recently completed lighting retrofits at both restaurants.  Now they're saving almost $500 a year in electricity costs.  Congratulations 7 Numbers! You've demonstrated your strong belief in conservation and took action to reduce your electricity consumption. 

 

Broadview Flower Market

Broadview Flower Market is planting the right bulbs by changing to compact flourescent light bulbs.  The store recently signed up to conserve and retrofitted all their lights in the store.  By doing this, Broadview Flower Market is saving roughly $40 on electricity each month.  Thank you Broadview Flower Market! You're making a difference by lowering your electricity consumption.

 

Sunrise Records

Sunrise Records hit a high note when they took action to reduce their energy consumption.  The music store recently  retrofitted 208 light bulbs.  Sunrise Records not only reduced their consumption, but reduced the payback period for this project to about three months.  Bravo Sunrise Records! Your conservation efforts are duly noted.

 

Toronto Catholic District School Board

The Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) not only educates over 93,000 students, but takes action to reduce their electricity consumption.  The TCDSB Facility Services department recently upgraded lighting in 62 of its portable classrooms and exit signs in 10 schools.  All in all, the school board invested approximately $44,000 into the project.  Now TCDSB will save roughly 70,000 kWh a year, removing 14.7 tonnes of green house gases from the environment.  TCDSB, congratulations for this outstanding achievement! 

 

 TD Canada Trust

TD Canada Trust looks for ways to gain a return on investments and they found one in conservation!  The bank completed lighting retrofits resulting in savings of 1,223,393 kWh a year.  TD Canada Trust is reducing its carbon emissions by 220 mtCO2 and will save roughly $146,000 in electricity and maintenance costs.  Congratulations TD Canada Trust!  The community is banking on your leadership.

 

The Beer Store


Cheers to the Beer Store!  The company is keeping it cool by implementing lighting retrofits at 42 of its Toronto-area retail stores. This will save approximately 184,000 kWh and will remove 38.5 tonnes of harmful CO2 emissions from the environment.  Thanks The Beer Store! Your achievements are definitely something to celebrate.

 

The Foggy Dew Pub


Grab a drink and a bite to eat at The Foggy Dew Pub as it sets the mood with new retrofit lighting.  The pub changed its lighting to dimmable, warm, yellow compact flourescent light bulbs. The new ambiance will save The Foggy Dew Pub in electricity costs every month. Thanks for setting the right mood and a great example The Foggy Dew Pub!
