We have also continued with Toronto Hydro’s handwell replacement program. Handwells are electrical connection boxes that are generally located below the sidewalk, with their covers installed at street level. 2012 Handwell Remediation Program Highlights: • We replaced approximately 1,911 handwells bringing the total to 7,502 since the program began. • We replaced more than 43 kilometres of underground cable bringing the total amount to more than 146 kilometres since 2010. • We have approximately 4,200 remaining handwells and we plan to replace them by 2015. 37% REMAINING HANDWELS TO BE REPLACE D 16% HANDWELS REPLACE D IN 2012 22% HANDWELS REPLACE D IN 2010 25% HANDWELS REPLACE D IN 2011 TORONTO HYDRO 2012 corporate respnosibility report 37
