Investing in your neighbourhood

Revitalizing our grid, street by street

We’re renewing, upgrading and expanding Toronto’s electricity grid to help improve service reliability and resiliency throughout the city. We’ve made significant investments in infrastructure, but there’s much more work to be done to meet the current and future needs of our customers.

Upgrades scheduled in your area? Here’s what you need to know:

Why invest in infrastructure now?

Infrastructure

Predominately built in the 1950s and ’60s, more than one third of our infrastructure will reach the end of its useful life by 2020. We’re replacing hydro poles, transformers, cables and underground equipment as part of a long-term infrastructure renewal investment program.

Keeping you informed

We’re committed to providing helpful, timely and consistent communications throughout the construction process. You may receive a written notice on behalf of our crews and/or our authorized contractors’ crews through the various stages of a project.

Toronto Hydro often uses third-party contractors who work on our behalf to complete projects. If work is being performed by one of our contractors, you can expect to receive communications directly from the contractor, including information about planned power outages.
