Toronto Hydro Corporation operates two major wholly-owned subsidiaries: Toronto Hydro-Electric System Limited, which distributes electricity and engages in conservation and demand management (“CDM”) programs; and Toronto Hydro Energy Services Inc., which provides street lighting services and develops energy efficiency products and services. The City of Toronto is Toronto Hydro Corporation’s sole shareholder.

Toronto Hydro-Electric System Limited is one of the largest electricity distribution utilities in Canada, delivering electricity to a broadly diverse, economically robust, residential, commercial and industrial customer base in the City of Toronto. Regulated by The Ontario Energy Board, it holds 90% of the Corporation’s assets and accounts for 96% of net revenues.
Toronto Hydro Energy Services Inc. is a professional energy services company, which owns and operates street and expressway lighting assets located in the City of Toronto. In addition to providing street lighting services to the City of Toronto, TH Energy engages in the sale of energy efficiency products and services to commercial and industrial customers.
 
 
Services
    Provides policy and strategic direction for the two subsidiaries.
    Manages shareholder and key business relationships.
    Promotes workplace and public awareness about electricity safety and energy conservation.
    Directs corporate responsibility strategies and activities.
   
2008 Achievements
    Named one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers for the fourth consecutive year as chosen by the Canada’s Top 100 Employers organization; one of Greater Toronto's Top Employers for the third straight year as featured in The Toronto Star; one of the Top Family Friendly Employers for the third straight year as featured by Canadian Family Magazine; and one of Canada’s Greenest Companies for the first year as chosen by Canada’s Top 100 Employers organization.
    Completed the sale of Toronto Hydro Telecom Inc.
    Successfully negotiated a five-year Collective Agreement with CUPE Local One.
    As at December 31, 2008, the Corporation had an “A” credit rating from DBRS and from Standard & Poor’s.
    Continued to support employee volunteerism in the community.
   Supported the City’s Urban Forest campaign, Ontario Forestry Association and Local Enhancement and Appreciation of Forests through tree planting initiatives and forestry education programs.
    Continued working with the Fatal Light Awareness Program and the City of Toronto on the Lights OUT Toronto program to protect migrating birds.
    Raised $212,000 for United Way.
   
2009 Objectives
    Continue our emphasis on workplace health and safety and environmental responsibility.
    Maintain Top 100 Employer status with engaged and empowered employees who continue to be proud to work for Toronto Hydro Corporation and its subsidiaries.
    Provide a consistent and fair return to our Shareholder.
