For Toronto Hydro-Electric System customers with a central air conditioner

If you have a central air conditioner, you likely qualify for $75 in gift cards when you sign up for peaksaver. After you sign up, there's nothing more for you to do – we take care of everything.

Here's how it works

You sign up your central air conditioner for peaksaver.

A small device will be installed near your central air conditioner to reduce its electricity use during peak times. This is usually on hot summer afternoons when air conditioners are running at maximum, but never on weekends or statutory holidays. You likely won't notice the difference.

When that's done, you'll be notified that you can choose $75 worth of gift cards from over 250 leading retailers. Make your choice, and they're in the mail to you.

Why peaksaver? It's the green thing to do

When you sign up for peaksaver, you're joining over 50,000 Toronto households and businesses that are helping to reduce the environmental impact of periods of peak electricity demand. It’s during these peak periods that the less attractive forms of generation, like coal, must be used. This causes some of the pollution we sometimes see on hot summer days. So, help us reduce the peaks and clear the air by signing up for peaksaver.

peaksaver activation is minimal

Typically peaksaver is activated when the electricity supply is reaching its peak, weekdays from June through September between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. The activation period won't exceed 4 hours. If you have a special day on which you'd like to opt out of peaksaver, call us and we'll schedule an exemption.
