Conservation Programs - Highlights to date

Our customers are effectively contributing to the creation of a conservation culture in Toronto. Here are just some of our programs and successes:

  • Summer Savings residential program: in the summer of 2007, over 140,000 of our customers reduced their summer electricity use by 10% or more, that's 30% of eligible customers!
  • Summer Challenge for Business program: 12,902 Toronto Hydro commercial customers - about one in every four qualifying Toronto Hydro business customers - reduced their 2007 summer electricity use by 10% or more, receiving a 10 per cent credit on their electricity bill.
  • Festive Light Exchanges: over 65,000 inefficient incandescent festive light strings have been turned in to us through our Festive Light programs
  • Keep Cool: 18,717 old inefficient air conditioners have been collected and recycled to date in Toronto through the Keep Cool room air conditioner program
  • The Great Refrigerator Round Up: Over 5,000 old appliances were picked up through this appliance removal program
